The company Watson-Marlow France has donated us 1000 euros for our project of “Community guesthouse”!
We thank them wholeheartedly and a huge thank you also to our friend Thierry D. who had the wonderful idea to propose our project to this company and to act as an intermediary during the whole process.
What is the project of “Community Guesthouse ” ?
We wish to realize an associative guesthouse in the village of Sungai Pinang, entirely financed by the association Rimba. Indeed, the road that connects the village to the city of Bungus has just been renovated. The village, now easily accessible, will soon see arriving many local tourists to enjoy its beaches and excursions offered on the surrounding islands. However, without a tourist structure, the village is not yet ready to welcome them.
The objectives of this project are numerous:
- create jobs within the guesthouse;
- reorientate fishermen on tourism to prevent them from turning to logging, as is currently the case, by diverting the use of fishing boats as means of transport for tourists to the islands;
- develop a new local economy based on ecotourism
- use the profits generated by the guesthouse to create new projects for the community (creation of a library, literacy classes, repair of common infrastructures, promote cultural events…) or to punctually help the villagers in case of a hard blow (medical assistance, support for bereaved families …) …
